Two stages, one purpose
Darul Uloom Lahore is an international Islamic institution in Johar Town, Lahore, now in its second year. It was founded by Maulana Mohammad Obaid ur Rahman, who also leads it as Principal. It does not offer the full Dars-e-Nizami. Its work is the stage before it and the stage after it.
Before Dars-e-Nizami: Huffaz build a strong base here: fluency in Arabic and English, Hifz-ul-Hadith and a full Matric education. Then they choose their own path, and whether they become Ulama, judges or doctors, their base is strong.
After Dars-e-Nizami: for Ulama with at least 70% marks in their Alamiyya, we have two separate departments, Specialisation in English Language and Specialisation in Arabic Language, each one year with its own class.
The institution also runs a two-year Tajweed Department, and an Online Department that teaches Tajweed, Quran and Hifz to students at home and abroad. Darul Uloom Lahore is affiliated with Darul Uloom New York (USA).
Vision, mission and aims
Our vision
Huffaz who carry the Quran in their hearts and stand on a strong base, whatever they become: Ulama, judges or doctors; and Ulama who serve the Deen across the world in Arabic and in English, free of any financial greed.
Our mission
To give every Hafiz fluency in Arabic and English, Hifz-ul-Hadith and Matric; and to teach Ulama English and Arabic in two separate departments, with skills to support their families; and to make sure no deserving student is held back by lack of money.
Our goals
Firm Hifz for life
Daily revision and regular oral tests, so that every Hafiz keeps the Quran firm from the first year to the last.
Knowledge that shapes character
Adab, akhlaq and discipline taught alongside the books, so that learning shows in conduct.
Fluency in Arabic
Arabic as a living language, spoken and written fluently, opening the Quran and Hadith directly.
English for Da'wah and Tabligh
Fluent English for Da'wah and Tabligh worldwide, and for teaching and answering questions.
A strong base for any path
Matric in Science alongside Oula, so a Hafiz can go on to become an Aalim, a judge or a doctor.
Skills for graduate Ulama
A one-month skills course at the end of the year in each department, so Ulama can support their families and serve the Deen without looking to anyone's wealth.
The Huffaz Course
A four-year foundation course for Huffaz, before Dars-e-Nizami, in which religious study and school study run together, so that a student never has to choose between the two.
Hifz-ul-Hadith
Memorisation of Hadith, together with English language.
Arabic Language
Arabic language, with further Hifz-ul-Hadith.
Oula 9th
Oula, the first year of Dars-e-Nizami, with Class 9 Matric (Science group).
Oula 10th
Oula continued, with Class 10 Matric (Science group).
By the end of four years a student has kept his Hifz of the Quran strong, memorised Hadith, become fluent in Arabic and English, completed Oula and passed Matric in Science: a strong base for Dars-e-Nizami, law, medicine or any other path.
Huffaz Course · 4 years
Arabic, English, Hifz-ul-Hadith and Matric
Any path
Dars-e-Nizami, law, medicine or any other field
Two departments for Ulama
Specialisation in English Language and in Arabic Language, 1 year each
Every path stays open
Our Huffaz learn Arabic and English alongside Matric, so after the Huffaz Course they are ready for whichever path they choose.
Dars-e-Nizami
The books of Dars-e-Nizami are in Arabic. A Hafiz who already reads and speaks Arabic fluently understands them directly and with ease, and is well placed to excel and to be among the top students of his class.
MBBS, CSS, PMS or any other field
English is the main language of colleges and universities. A student who is fluent in English finds many subjects far easier, studies with confidence and stands out, because today fluency in English is highly valued in society.

Online classes, at home and abroad
Private students. Students from different countries, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, can enrol with Darul Uloom Lahore and study Tajweed, Quran and Hifz online from their own homes, in live video lessons with a teacher of Darul Uloom Lahore. Several students already study this way.
Students abroad. The department also teaches students abroad, at present in New York, USA. The students join from their classroom with a laptop and headphones, and our teachers teach them live from Lahore.
Examinations
Progress at Darul Uloom Lahore is measured, not assumed. Students sit four-monthly written examinations and oral tests, and results are recorded in class registers. These photographs were taken during a written examination at the institution.
Student life
Learning at Darul Uloom Lahore does not end with the lesson. Students eat together, and they look after their own places themselves: they wash the floors, clean the halls and keep everything neat and well maintained. Order, cleanliness and service are learned by doing.
